How to pay your Taxes Online

Step One - Go to

http://www.incometaxindia.gov.in/home.asp

and point on Pay Taxes Online. You will see three options there. Now choose Pay Tax Online (the last of the three options)

Step2 - After you click pay tax online you will be taken to this new screen

Select Challan No. ITNS 280 , You will proceed to this screen

Step 3 -  Fill all the fields marked with * correctly and choose the bank in which you have the online banking access rights. (The bank account holder need not be the same as the PAN Holder)  For the Year Ended March 31, 2011, the Assessment Year is 2011-12 and the type of tax for individuals will be  0021(Income tax other than companies) and  Type of Payment will be self assessment tax(300) for most of us.

After filling the above details , press the Proceed Button,  the site will prompt the name of the person as per Department’s records, if the name matches with the name as you required , kindly go ahead and it will take you to your selected bank. Follow the instructions there and fill in the tax amount on the bank’s website and you are done.
